The Future of Love Looks Bleak

Who will save love and model this lifestyle for future generations?

I know, I know you might think this is a headline you’d expect to see in the NY Post. Am I being too dramatic or over the top with this idea that the future of LOVE could ever be in jeopardy?

Well, I’m totally serious about this projection into the future. All kidding aside, I firmly believe that love, as an institution, is in big trouble. Here’s how I’ve come to this shocking and sort of chilling conclusion.

First, the marriage rate has plummeted. New statistics are out about marriage and it is not good news. According to a recent NY Times article, the rate of marriages has sunk by 66% in the US since 1957. Plus, keep in mind the current divorce rate is still very high at 50% failure.

Second the rate of births has taken a nose dive. For example, in Europe, the birth rate does not even cover the current population in Spain, Italy and Germany at only 1.4%! The birth rate needs to be 2.1 to replace those living now which means the number in each country is dwindling.

Third, more people live solo. Right now in the USA, nearly 40% of adults live alone in the big cities – that’s a huge departure from previous stats about occupants per dwelling

With all these unprecedented changes, my concern is for future generations. With so many abandoning love, giving up, not remarrying, waiting to date until after children have grown, and the growing disdain for the male population, who will demonstrate to the next generation what love and commitment to a romantic life partner is all about? This is a massive sociological crises that will undoubtedly be remembered in history as a dark time. The dark ages for love.

I wrote a bigger article for entitled the Global Love Crises if you want to read the full piece. It will make you think, that I can promise. And when I told this to one of my European clients, her reaction was to finally get into high gear and start meeting men! After all, you have a duty to the next generation, especially if you have children.
