Dating Over 40: The Joy of Randye’s Wedding

bride&groomBeen to any weddings lately?

Saturday night I went to my friend Randye’s wedding and it was a true delight. Getting married over 40 and after divorce  gives you a lot of freedom regarding wedding traditions if you choose to take it. Randye fully accessed hers, having her wedding in a local theatre! Yes, she and her husband were married on stage in front of 170 family members, friends and guests.

The entire wedding party was on stage and as the couple stood under the wedding canopy, they spoke their vows and completed traditions in front of a loving audience. The kiss was accompanied by a full round of applause!

How fun is that?

The ceremony was followed by the most amazing potluck meal you have ever seen. What a buffet including more shrimp than I’ve ever witnessed in one place, fresh tomatoes and mozzarella, baked ziti, chicken Marsala, etc. We got in line, selecting our dinner options, then eating in and around the theatre.

About 90 minutes later, we all returned to the theatre to hear the toasts and watch the  first dance – once again on stage. The DJ was set up in the back of the stage and many audience participants flocked to the stage to dance with the happy couple.

Following the first dance was the dessert buffet which surpassed the earlier display of delectables.

I loved the whole affair. The happy couple isn’t out a fortune and a good time was had by all. The bride looked gorgeous, the groom handsome and the guests were comfortable in a variety of attire from flip flops to evening wear.

I wish my wedding had been so relaxed and enjoyable. Of course as a bride, I suppose that’s a lot to ask for huh?

I met Randye when I was a guest on her radio show – my first radio appearance. When my book was ready to be published, Randye gave me a testimonial for it. I was grateful and thrilled. Randye not only agreed with my suggestions and philosophies, but had come to many of the same conclusions herself during her quest to meet “the one.”

There is nothing like seeing the success of two people who are happy and committed to each other. People fall in love every day. If you take some steps, educate yourself on what works today, and follow through, you could be next.

If you ask Randye, she’ll say that it was all worthwhile. Every bad date, every disappointment, every hour spent meeting new people lead her to Geoff and their one night, two act play this weekend. She said they met at the theatre, so it just seemed right to marry there.

May they live happily ever after.
