Hurricane Irene Left Me Reading by Flashlight

Hurricane Irene

The good news is there wasn’t any damage to my home! Just to modern living. I had two coolers in my kitchen acting as my fridge.  My frozen food was at a friend’s house. No TV, no hair dryer, no computer or internet. RI went to an office suite and paid by the hour to write this post, because I didn’t get to Starbucks or Barnes and Noble early enough and everyone had the same idea – free wifi.

It gets dark now at 8pm. What’s a girl to do? Read by flashlight! Oh yes, I became a pro. I finished a couple of books. It’s amazing how much you can read when you can’t get on Facebook etc…

But the weather was beautiful all week so I worked to clean up all the broken branches in my yard. Went for a walk in my neighborhood. Luckily it wasn’t very hot, nor was it winter  with no electricity!

As a dating coach for women over 40, I often take lessons from my own life and use them as a spring board for dating.

So, what dating situation are you in that’s not up to par? What can you do to make the most of things? How can you look at things differently? What can you try today that you haven’t never considered before? To find love, you will need to make lemonade from lemons, or read by flashlight when the lights don’t work. The trick is to stretch yourself, think and try new ideas, and get out of your comfort zone.

I know you can do it. And let me remind you why it’s so worth it.

Last Monday night I was not my pleasant self. Nope. I was raging. Sick of the outage. Worried about things. Feeling out of control. My husband came home. He had a very hard day because of the storm damage. I started ranting – I just couldn’t help myself.

He remained calm, listened to me and then said, “Hey let’s get Chinese food and go to the movies tonight.” That’s why I married Paul! What a difference that made in my mood. I felt renewed and ready to face another day of no electricity. Having a good partner is worth every miserable date you’ll ever go on. Once you find the right man for you, you won’t look back. You’ll look ahead to many good years with a loving man who will  help enrich your life.

If you’ve given up – get back out there! If you are out there, smile more and try something new. Just keep this story in mind and remember, there is no doubt, it’s completely and totally worth your efforts!
