Dating Over 40: Enjoy Being Single – It’s National Singles Week!

Once a year, singles rule for the week and this is THE week! This national holiday was started back in 1982.  Celebrate the joys of being single – and there are many. Here’s some of the benefits as stated by my over 40 dating coaching clients:

1. You can sleep with the TV on because you won’t need to worry about waking “him” up.
2. You don’t have to confer or negotiate with a partner on home repairs.
3. Or about vacation plans.
4. Or about retirement savings.
5. Or about going to a Girl’s Night Out.
6. You never have to spend a moment with “his family”  – this CAN be a blessing.
7. You are free to come and go as you please, when you please.
8. You don’t need to negotiate holidays and where to celebrate them.
9. You never have to pick up his dirty socks.

This list is actually endless when you start to think about it.

But the grass is always greener. That means frequently, singles don’t consider the good points of flying solo. Benefits can get lost in the desire for a partner – which I TOTALLY understand. After all, I was single until 41.

Consider this – for one week, this one you are currently living, take a moment to stop and really appreciate the good parts of the single life. Counting your blessings and being grateful is very good for your spirit and outlook on life. Appreciating what IS, helps make what ISN”T more tolerable.

I often recommend to my over 40 dating coaching clients that they  make a list of everything that is going right in life. This can be particularly helpful for those dating after divorce.

When I was in coaching school, my coach, Terri Levine, would often start a coaching call with this question, “What’s working?” It wasn’t always easy for me to answer. Its much easier to start off with complaints. Just human nature I guess.

However, through this practice, I did learn to enjoy more of what I achieved. That’s not only a self-esteem builder, but it also creates a positive attitude and outlook on your future. What better way to attract what you want than with a positive outlook? That’s the foundation for the Law-of-Attraction – like attracts like.

If you want more of something – focus on that with positive thoughts. And if you don’t want more of it, STOP SPENDING TIME FOC– USED ON WHAT’S NOT WORKING!  Thanks Terri. I’ve used this technique  many times to turn my thinking around.

To celebrate National Singles Week, my friends Terry Hernon MacDonald (author of How to Atract and Marry the Man of Your Dreams) and Keysha Whitaker are sponsoring a “blog crawl.”  In case you’ve never heard the term, they are having guest bloggers every day to address various singles topics.

Today, I’m the featured blogger! I answered a great question about online dating – when to take down your profile. Stop over to read if you’re curious.  Single Women Rule

Happy National Singles Week!  Half the US adult population is single, so there are plenty of people in the same boat to celebrate with.
